WebJul 10, 2024 · Selenite is a variety of crystallized gypsum that forms as an evaporate in clay beds, salt flats, hot springs and caves. It is found on every continent, with rich deposits in Morocco, Australia, Greece, the United States (you can even mine Hourglass Selenite in Oklahoma!), and most notably the Naica Mine's Cave in Chihuahua, Mexico. WebGiant Gypsum Crystals. These magnificent gypsum crystals originated less than 2 million years ago through a slow-growing process known as Ostwald ripening. This process occurs when larger crystals continue to grow while smaller ones dissolve, leading to the formation of the spectacular selenite crystals seen in the Pulpí Geode today.
